PDR

As a service to our referring physicians we have compiled our version of a Physician’s Desk Reference to provide you with four types of information. 1) A brief history and description of our company so that you can be confident of our depth and commitment. 2) A picture and bio introduction to our professional staff so that you can be familiar with the practitioners that are treating your patients. 3) A condensed catalog of our products and services to assist you in readily identifying the most appropriate device for your patient as well as introducing new products as they emerge. 4) Contact information and address for our locations throughout Virginia and North Carolina.

Newsletter

Virginia Prosthetics publishes a quarterly newsletter featuring articles dealing with all subjects related to the orthotic and prosthetic field. Topics include the clinical and pathological aspects of the diseases and congenital conditions encountered in the O&P practice as well as reviews of new devices and techniques being introduced in their treatment. We are happy to add you to our newsletter mailing list. Simply notify our nearest office or contact our O&P Coordinator.

Prescription Pads

We are glad to provide prescription pads to our referring physicians. However, due to the number of physician groups and hospitals that have converted in anticipation of the Electronic Medical Records Conversion, we no longer make un-solicited stocking deliveries. If you would like pads or need a re-supply please contact our nearest office or simply contact our O&P Coordinator and we will be happy to have them delivered.

Product Demonstrations and In-Service Presentations

We are happy to make arrangements to bring to your office any device that you may have questions about or want to see. We also offer in-service presentations on a wide variety of O&P topics and will be glad to schedule a presentation at your office.

O&P Coordinator, Charlie Coulter

As part of our ongoing effort to provide unparalleled service to our referring physicians Virginia Prosthetics is the only O&P provider in Virginia that employs an O&P coordinator. Charlie serves as the liaison between the company and the health care professionals we work with to ensure that they receive the highest levels of service possible and to promote a cohesive team approach to orthotic and prosthetic care. Charlie is a graduate of Roanoke College. He became involved with the O&P industry after losing his leg in a vehicular accident in 1996. His additional responsibilities include providing in-service educational programs, introducing new products, and serving as the main point of contact for suggestions, questions or concerns from our health care industry customers.

Information and Peer Services

Please feel free to request the following information and services for your patients at any time. Just contact any of our offices or Charlie Coulter our O&P Coordinator.

Information can be as comforting as it is educational. People facing the choice of amputation, as well as those who have undergone traumatic amputation, have many questions about how their lives will change and what we can do to help them regain their lives to the highest level of functionality possible. Our slogan is “We Believe in Your Possibilities,” and we live by it.

Patient Video

A pamphlet and DVD designed to introduce people to the possibilities ahead and to encourage them to look at their amputation as a restorative process rather than the loss of a limb. Featured are several of our patients who have experienced planned or traumatic amputations and have returned to their lives with a positive outlook. They provide a great deal of confidence to those watching by reaffirming that life does go on after an amputation and that as with all things in life, you can take out what you put into it.

New Patient Package

We have compiled a package of information that we feel is very helpful to  new amputees. These info packs are specifically tailored to the various types and levels of amputation. Included are a rehabilitation guide from the Rehab Institute of Chicago, our patient video, a copy of in-Motion the semi-monthly magazine of the Amputee Coalition of America, a copy of our newsletter, membership information for the Amputee Coalition of America and the Roanoke Amputee Support Network, and an assortment of information regarding the latest prosthetic devices. We have found that having access to a varied selection of information helps new patients maintain a positive focus.

Peer Visits and Consults

Many times, it can be helpful for a new amputee or someone contemplating an amputation to be able to speak with another amputee. Hearing how their amputation improved or possibly saved their lives can be comforting to those who have just undergone or are about to undergo an amputation. An amputee peer can explain how they have adapted to limb loss and help instill in new amputees the confidence that they too will regain their lives and move on. We have several amputee employees who act as peers. We are often asked by physicians and friends to meet with patients and we are glad to do this. We can arrange to do this at one of our offices or at a hospital if necessary.
